2026-2027 Calendar Consult (FSD Staff)

Before the Board of Trustees ratifies the 2026-2027 calendar, we want your eyes on it. You provide great ideas to inform the decisions regarding the operations of our system.

This consultation is open from January 15 to January 22, 2026 and your feedback will inform the final draft of the Instructional Calendar that will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval on January 28, 2026.

Who is this consultation for?

• All FSD staff 

A separate public engagement is available at our website for families and community members to provide their feedback. 

What does the calendar look like?

Please review the draft versions of the calendar. A list of important dates are found on page 2 of each document:

• Draft System Calendar (link)  (all the details, for internal use, and outlines the commitments that builds the Instructional Calendar)
• Draft Instructional Calendar (link) (for public use to indicate when schools are in service and other important dates that influence student learning)

Note that this is a draft version and may change before ratification by the Board of Trustees

What goes into building the calendar?

While you review the draft, please keep in mind the following frameworks that must be considered when building the Instructional Calendar (From AP130 - Organization of the School Year):

• We have a commitment to provide a minimum number of instructional hours to students
• We have a commitment to provide a minimum number of professional learning days, as per collective agreements (link to FSD | Labour Relations).
• We are required to work around provincially mandated exams and assessments (Alberta.ca).
• We are striving for a balance of breaks throughout the year (Fall Break -- Winter Break -- Spring Break).
• We strive to support the social-emotional well-being of our staff and students.

We are continuing to explore financial and calendar efficiencies to best serve our students while maintaining wellness for all. Your input helps us to promote that we are maximizing student learning and staff wellness while balancing organizational priorities. Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey.
