Ideas That Make Cents Public Consultation

In a continuing effort to promote that Foothills School Division is a place for all, we are seeking insight into the people within our community. One way we are accomplishing this is by building a calendar of celebrations and days of significance that best represent you, our community. Canada is a cultural mosaic. By building a calendar that reflects each member of our community, we can grow our understanding of each other, celebrate our diversity, and create a sense of belonging. There are many holy days associated with various faiths and the absence of such dates on this list should not be interpreted to mean they are not significant or valued. This list is not meant to be comprehensive or exhaustive and every attempt has been made to ensure its accuracy. This is a fluid calendar and updates and changes are made throughout the year. Celebrations for All

Foothills School Division (FSD), &Eacute;cole Secondaire Foothills Composite High School (FCHS), and the Town of Okotoks are inviting you to be a part of the Shared Responsibility to ensure Safety for All. As you may know, FSD is a Place for All, where each of us is expected to consistently foster a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe environment that prioritizes respect and acceptance of diversity.We are pleased to share with you some of the highlights of our Safety for All initiative, which aims to hear your concerns and solutions to promote a culture of safety and well-being among our students, staff, and community members. Here are some of the activities we have been working on:&Eacute;cole Secondaire Foothills Composite High School | Alberta High School of Fine Arts Parking Lot<ul><li>Initial survey conducted in June 2023 to assess the safety priorities. While most respondents felt safe at the school, the top concerns were:<ol><li>Loitering and gathering of students</li><li>Traffic in the pick up lane/ idle zone</li><li>Winter road conditions</li><li>Time to exit the lot</li></ol></li></ul> <ul><li>Based on your creative solutions the following have been implemented:<ol><li>Student parking pass system effective September 2023. </li><li>Increased signage regarding designated parking areas. </li><li>Repurposing vacant space at the northwest end of the school for additional staff parking, freeing up space for student parking. </li><li>Removal of a fence adjacent to the student parking area, which allows for improved snow removal, and widening the road for traffic flow. </li><li>Installation of additional security cameras around the campus, including within the building, parking lot, and building exterior. This helps to identify those littering and participating in vandalism and unsafe activities. </li><li>Continued advocacy for a new high school in Okotoks. As reflected in our Capital Plan, the need is shared with our local MLA and Minister of Education. </li><li>Collaborating with the Town of Okotoks to determine solutions that address traffic flow along surrounding roadways. </li></ol></li></ul> Foothills School Division appreciates the time and efforts of Mr. Vikram Kulkarni, Municipal Enforcement Manager for the Town of Okotoks and his colleagues who are equally committed to the shared responsibility of safety for all within our community. We are a CRA-registered foundation and a society in Alberta. Our membership consists of community members who see our youth of Foothills School Division as citizens of a lifelong flourishing learning environment. Our Vision is to remove financial barriers that impede academic success.Our Mission is to build a community that empowers the students of Foothills School Division.WHAT IS THE NEED?While public funding from Alberta Education addresses basic education opportunities, students will benefit from further enhancements in their education. From removing barriers, to urgent aide, and funding innovative, community-minded projects, the foundation is aimed at setting all Foothills School Division students for success. ENHANCED LEARNING SUPPORTEvery child can succeed when equipped with the right resources.Provide the means to offer mental health, technology, psycho-education assessments, or human resources to support our students.EMERGENCY RELIEF FOR FAMILIESEvery student has an equal opportunity to succeed.Assist students with emergent needs that prohibit them from participating fully in their education.EMPOWER FLOURISHING COMMUNITIESEvery student is a part of a flourishing community. Students can be a part of innovative projects that are self-sustaining and encourage community engagement or environmental sustainability.
